The recycled metal fish

Fish wall art made from recycled metal. I am deliberately using rusty mild steel for it's colour and texture. This is something I hope to develop further in my work, see also the 'Sphere'.

I have recycled metal from: stainless steel serving trays; bike parts; ball bearings from miscellaneous domestic wares and scrap mild steel sheet from a local industrial unit.

It takes me a long time to design a new sculpture. I have to draw, model and hone designs over a long period of time. I have been working on the fish for the last 3 years. Below you will see some of my earlier prototypes. So, when I have a design I am happy with, I like to create duplicates. I like the way this picture shows that when along side each other they're all slightly different. This can be due to the changing parts I have in hand, or to the fact that each one is handmade, and individually made.

As one door closes, another one opens...with all the uncertainty and cancellations of events this year, just yesterday I discovered on the Delamore Arts page an upcoming 'online' exhibition. Hopefully this won't be cancelled. It is called 'Reflections' put on by the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. Closing date is 8th October. If your an artist you may also want to check it out. I will be sure to post more information if I pursue this.

There are many more models too! If you are passing by my studio, and want to see more about the fish, then you are more than welcome to make an appointment and visit.
