Last week, I said 'goodbye' to these March hares. It was a commission for a client's anniversary. I have not sculpted hares before, so I had to start right with the basics. For example, looking at photos, practicing my drawing, learning the proportions, sculpting models, looking at the contents of my box of scrap metal and figuring out the overall size of the piece. I started in the last week of January by making my observational drawings, and finished the piece on the 15th March. When I make a new sculpture for a client I like to keep them well informed in the design process by sending photos along the way to check that the decisions I make will meet their expectations. I hope that my newly developed knowledge of hares will now be useful for creating more in the future.
